Forum discusses federal intervention in Rio de Janeiro’s public safety

The Brazilian Army Command and General Staff College (ECEME) and Fundação Getulio Vargas will host a debate forum on Federal Intervention in Rio de Janeiro’s Public Safety on September 25, between 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. through the Military Observatory of Praia Vermelha (OMPV), under the theme “Outlook on Federal Intervention: Planning, Economy and Public Policies”. The event will be held at FGV’s Cultural Center (Praia de Botafogo, 186. Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro/RJ).

The event will be attended by Federal Intervenor General Walter Souza Braga Netto, the Secretary of Safety of the State of Rio de Janeiro, General Richard Fernandez Nunes, the Director of FGV’s Department of Public Policy Analysis (DAPP), Marco Aurelio Ruediger, and Diplomat Márcio Fortes de Almeida, from the Federation of Industries of the State of Rio de Janeiro (FIRJAN).

The Military Observatory of Praia Vermelha is an important tool to monitor national and international developments, besides the strategic analysis of different scenarios, arising from the experience acquired in operations, specifically those related to the Guarantee of Law and Order (GLO).

Since the Federal Intervention was announced, the OMPV, which features civil and military scholars, researchers working with subjects related to the use of Armed Forces, has carried out studies to subsidize the debate on the State’s public safety. The OMPV underlines the need to promote constructive and inclusive dialogue, in order to help the state obtain social peace and ensure safe conditions throughout Rio de Janeiro.

The forum is open to the public. Online registration available at the website.
