Master’s students learn more about entrepreneurial initiatives at the Heliópolis slum, in Sao Paulo

On September 21, students from the Professional Master's Degree in International Management (MPGI) of FGV’s Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (EAESP) attended a field activity to understand how social entrepreneurship works in practice in Brazil. Led by professor Edgard Barki, they visited the Heliópolis slum, on the South side of the state capital, where they were introduced to some local business initiatives.

Before the field study, the professor gave a presentation on social entrepreneurship, followed by discussions. In the community, one of the largest and most populous of Sao Paulo, the students were able to interact with leaders of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and became familiar with inclusion and entrepreneurship promotion initiatives developed by both the public and private sectors.

The MPGI is a program aimed at training multicultural professionals, based on responsible leadership and critical attitudes in the face of global business challenges. The program encourages initiatives such as this visit to Heliópolis, due to a belief that development is only possible in a multicultural environment that encourages close contact with companies of various sectors of society.
