Inflation by IPC-S drops in the third week of April

The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) for April 22, 2019 varied by 0.69%, being 0.10 percentage points (p.p.) below the rate reported in the last disclosure. Six of the seven capitals surveyed reported a decrease in their variation rates.

In this calculation, four of the eight component expenditure classes of the index reported a decrease in their variation rates. The main contribution came from the Transportation group (1.30% to 1.04%). In this expenditure class, it is worth mentioning the behavior of the item Ethanol, whose rate went from 3.05% to 1.30%.

The following groups also reported decreases in their variation rates: Housing (0.55% to 0.39%), Food (1.04% to 0.89%), and Communication (0.16% to 0.11%). In these expenditure classes, it is worth mentioning the behavior of the items residential electricity bill (1.97% to 1.18%), fruits (4.02% to 2.40%) and landline telephone and Internet packs (0.76% to 0.43%).

In contrast, the groups Clothing (0.95% to 1.20%), Health and Personal Care (0.61% to 0.72%), Education, Reading and Recreation (0.30% to 0.35%) and Miscellaneous Expenses (0.44% to 0.48%) reported growth in their variation rates. In these expenditure classes, it is worth mentioning the items: clothing accessories (0.85% to 1.49%), medicines in general (0.90% to 1.36%), musical concerts (2.18% to 2.65%), and lottery tickets (16.13% to 23.66%).
