The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) for May 31, 2019 varied by 0.22%, being 0.12 percentage points below the rate reported in the last disclosure. With this result, the indicator reached a cumulative increase of 2.44% in the year and 4.99% in the last 12 months.

In this calculation, five of the eight component expenditure classes of the index reported a decrease in their variation rates. The main contribution came from the Transportation group (0.96% to 0.49%). In this expenditure class, it is worth mentioning the behavior of the item Gasoline, whose rate went from 3.03% to 1.86%.

The following groups also reported decreases in their variation rates: Food (-0.18% to -0.37%), Health and Personal Care (0.75% to 0.62%), Miscellaneous Expenses (0.49% to 0.23%), and Communication (-0.14% to -0.23%). In these expenditure classes, it is worth mentioning the behavior of the items: vegetables and legumes (-135% to -4.68%), medicines in general (1.92% to 1.51%), lottery tickets (20.55% to 11.44%), and landline telephone and Internet packs (-0.69% to -1.05%).

In contrast, the groups Housing (0.42% to 0.54%), Clothing (0.17% to 0.27%) and Education, Reading and Recreation (0.07% to 0.10%) presented increases in their variation rates. In these expenditure classes, it is worth mentioning the items: residential electricity bill (1.49% to 1.99%), shoes (-0.12% to 0.03%), and airfare (-9.57% to -5.19%).
