Inflation by IPC-S drops in the third week of June

The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) for June 22, 2019 dropped by 0.05%, being 0.09 percentage points (p.p.) below the rate reported in the last disclosure. In this calculation, four of the eight component expenditure classes of the index reported a decrease in their variation rates.

The main contribution came from the Transportation group (-0.27% to -0.63%). In this expenditure class, it is worth mentioning the behavior of the item Gasoline, whose rate went from -0.71% to -2.04%.

The following groups also reported decreases in their variation rates: Housing (0.28% to 0.13%), Education, Reading and Recreation (1.11% to 0.79%), and Health and Personal Care (0.43% to 0.42%). In these expenditure classes, it is worth mentioning the behavior of the items residential electricity bill (-0.13% to -1.08%), music concerts (2.96% to -0.28%), and medicines in general (0.61% to 0.34%).

In contrast, the groups Food (-0.55% to -0.42%), Communication (-0.05% to 0.06%) and Clothing (0.35% to 0.40%) showed an increase in their variation rates. In these expenditure classes, it is worth mentioning the following items: vegetables and legumes (-5.15% to -3.06%), landline phone and Internet packs (-0.08% to 0.24%), and footwear (0, 24% to 0.59%).

The Miscellaneous Expenses group repeated the variation rate of -0.35% reported in the last calculation. The main influences came from the following items: religious and funeral services (-0.14% to -0.10%), upwards, and pet food (-0.62% to -0.64%), downwards.
