International experts discuss impacts of fake news on fight against coronavirus

The director of Fundação Getulio Vargas’ Department of Public Policy Analysis (FGV DAPP), Marco Aurelio Ruediger, will participate in “Brazil and Mexico: Domestic disinformation in the context of Covid-19,” a webinar organized by the Atlantic Council to discuss the influence of fake news on the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. The debate will take place on Monday at 3 pm.
The webinar’s main topics will be how governments are dealing with the pandemic, how the spread of fake news about the coronavirus has affected possible responses by citizens, and what governments, the media and civil society have been doing together to tackle disinformation.
In addition to Ruediger, the debate will feature Roberta Braga, Luiza Bandeira and Esteban Ponce de León, all representing the Atlantic Council, and Saiph Savage, the director of the Human-Computer Interaction Lab at the University of Virginia’s Department of Computer Science & Electrical Engineering.
FGV DAPP is working with the Atlantic Council to strengthen democracies in Latin America. The same purpose caused it to lead a social network monitoring project called the #ObservaAL Digital Democracy Room.
You can sign up for the webinar on the Atlantic Council’s website. The event will also be transmitted on the organization’s social networks.
