Conference discusses advances and innovations in mediation celebrating milestones of consensual justice in Brazil
Event held in Rio de Janeiro brought together national and international experts to discuss the impacts of Resolution CNJ 125/2010 and the Mediation Law, as well as outline pathways for the future of mediation in the country

To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Resolution CNJ 125/2010 and the 10th anniversary of Law No. 13.140/2015, the Câmara de Mediação e Arbitragem hosted the conference "From milestone to innovation" on March 31, 2025. The gathering brought together leading experts in a high-quality discussion on the advances of consensual justice in Brazil, its current challenges, and perspectives for the coming years.
Resolution CNJ 125 was a turning point, establishing the National Judicial Policy for the appropriate handling of conflicts of interest, institutionally promoting the use of mediation and conciliation. The Mediation Law solidified the necessary legal framework to ensure legal certainty and encourage the use of these methods both in the Judiciary and in the extrajudicial realm.
Looking towards the future, the event addressed innovative practices applied in Brazil and abroad, emphasizing the role of mediation as a public policy and strategic tool for conflict resolution. The conference highlighted the importance of integrated action among different actors in the justice system, the value of a dialogue culture, and the encouragement of innovation in conflict management.
The program included presentations from Professor Helena Soleto Muñoz of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, director of the Intrajudicial Mediation Program and member of the General Codification Commission of the Spanish Ministry of Justice. From Brazil, Judge Humberto Dalla of the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro and professor at the Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) participated, recognized for his academic and institutional work in mediation and conflict theory. The moderation was conducted by Juliana Loss, executive director of the Câmara de Mediação e Arbitragem and president of the Arbitration Commission of OAB/RJ.
The initiative reinforces the role of the Câmara as a promoter of dialogue, technical qualification, and innovation in appropriate dispute resolution methods, contributing to the strengthening of a more efficient, accessible, and plural justice system.
