Dissertation defense addresses Apinajé knowledge and memory in unprecedented academic setting
Research by Andressa Iremex Apinajé reflects on body, health, and memory in the context of the Apinajé people

On September 23, 2025, at 2:00 PM, Andressa Iremex Apinajé will present the dissertation “Amnhĩjagri (shelter) Apinajé: knowledge, body, health, and memory”, as part of the Professional Master's in Cultural Assets and Social Projects. The work is supervised by Celso Castro, director of FGV CPDOC, and co-supervised by anthropologist Odair Giraldin.
The defense represents a symbolic milestone, as it is the first dissertation defended by a representative of the indigenous people in the program. The research addresses cultural practices of the Apinajé people related to body care, health, and memory preservation, highlighting its relevance for studies on intangible heritage and social policies.
The examination will be held in-person at the institution's headquarters (Praia de Botafogo, 190 – room 1027, Rio de Janeiro) and will also be broadcast online via Zoom.
