Partnership between FGV and Porto de Luanda drives governance, sustainability, and compliance practices
Executive program connects global best practices to the Angolan reality and prepares Porto de Luanda's leaders for new management standards

The Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) hosted executives from Porto de Luanda for the Corporate Governance, Sustainability, and Compliance Training Program in Rio de Janeiro. Conducted in-person over two weeks, the course was specifically designed to meet the strategic needs of Angola's largest port at a time of organizational transformation and a quest for alignment with international best practices.
According to Lisandro Mussungo, Human Resources Director at Porto de Luanda, the choice of FGV was due to the institution's recognition as a reference in executive education:
"We want our senior staff educated at the best universities and centers of excellence in the world. FGV fits that profile, and that is why we sought this partnership to strengthen our governance model and enhance Porto de Luanda's operations within international standards."
Executive Neusa Nascimento, Director of the Legal Office, emphasizes that international training marks a turning point for team development:
"We are in an embryonic phase of implementing areas such as compliance and sustainability. Accessing the accumulated experience of Brazil and FGV allows us to adapt global best practices to our reality and advance in a process that will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the management and reputation of the port."
Customized program for the port sector
Program coordinator Sandro Benelli explains that the course was structured based on interviews and alignment meetings with the Angolan team, considering not only the organizational context of Porto de Luanda but also the country's geopolitical and socioeconomic scenarios.
"Our goal was to bring the most modern governance and sustainability practices applied to the port sector. This is a practical course, preparing executives to develop sustainability plans, compare their governance with international standards, and implement strategic improvements in the Board of Directors and senior management."
Expected impacts
Among the key learnings highlighted by participants are topics such as ESG, risk management, and compliance, which are considered fundamental to the process of redefining Porto de Luanda's strategic plan (2026-2030) and to the creation of a new organizational structure.
In addition to strengthening operational efficiency, the integration of governance, sustainability, and compliance generates value for the company, improves its competitiveness, and helps reduce risks and capital costs—benefits that Porto de Luanda aims to capture in its expansion trajectory.
International connection of FGV
For FGV, the program reinforces the commitment to training global leaders and strategic action with Portuguese-speaking countries.
"FGV is at the forefront of generating knowledge applied to corporate governance. This course demonstrates our ability to establish international partnerships and bring organizations some of the most modern management practices, always with a focus on tangible results for high-level executives," emphasizes Benelli.
