Event will gather researchers, artists, and collectives in Rio de Janeiro, with debates, cultural activities, and a tribute to pioneers in the field

On October 14 and 15, Fundação Getulio Vargas will host the Southeast Regional Meeting of the Brazilian Oral History Association (ABHO), in partnership with the Center for Research and Documentation of Contemporary History of Brazil (CPDOC). This edition is part of the celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the CPDOC Oral History Program, created in 1975.
With the theme “Oral History among Lusophonies, Africanities, and Diasporas,” the schedule will bring together researchers, activists, educators, artists, and collectives from Brazil and abroad. The meeting will feature roundtables, symposiums, forums, an audiovisual exhibition, book launches, a women entrepreneurs fair, and cultural presentations.
Among the highlights are the opening conference by Leda Maria Martins, a reference in Afro-Brazilian memory and culture, and international participants such as Belchior Canivete (Instituto ARPAC, Mozambique) and Maria Fernanda Rollo (Universidade Nova de Lisboa). Also notable are Professor Mariléa de Almeida from the Department of History at UnB, and in debates on arts, Africanities, and heritage, the anthropologist and filmmaker Emílio Domingos and researcher Deyvesson Gusmão (IPHAN).
The meeting will also pay tribute to Professors Aspásia Camargo and Ismênia Martins, pioneers in the formation of the Oral History Program, with participation from Professor Marieta de Moraes Ferreira.
Activities will conclude on October 16 at MUHCAB - Museum of Afro-Brazilian History and Culture, with guided tours, a fair for women entrepreneurs, an Afro-Brazilian cooking exhibition, and performances from groups such as Olodum Rio and a samba circle.
