Partnership with the OECD intensifies FGV's collaboration in the global effort to combat COVID-19

FGV strengthens its role in the global effort to combat COVID-19 through a knowledge partnership with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

In times of severe economic and social crises, it is of great importance to spread qualitative and reliable analyses. Thus, FGV Europe affirmed its over 10 years long partnership with the OECD and will provide the content of this platform in Portuguese free of charge.

This platform was created as part of the OECD's commitment to providing its experience and technical expertise to governments around the world. The institution supports the development of effective policies, to delay the spread of COVID-19 and mitigate its economic and social impact - in the areas of health, taxes, labor and employment, SMEs, education, science and technology, trade and investment, and much more.

This partnership is aligned with FGV mission to promote Brazil’s socio-economic development while the institution continues to consolidate itself as one of the most important knowledge centers in the world.

Recently, Marcelo Neri, Director of FGV Social, wrote an article for the OECD. The article reflects on the impacts of COVID-19 in elderly people in Brazil.

Moreover, Luiz Gustavo, Executive Manager of FGV, also contributed with an article regarding the impacts of COVID-19 on the tourism sector in Brazil.

More contributions from FGV experts are expected to be submitted. Stay tuned for more articles in the OECD knowledge platform.

Brazil is one of the most active key partners of the OECD. Brazil uses its key partner status, adhering to several OECD legal instruments and participating in several OECD bodies. Brazil is also a member of the OECD Development Center and continues to actively participate in six OECD-LAC forums and regional networks

Brazil has consolidated this growing and mutually beneficial cooperation and officially expressed interest in becoming a member of the OECD in May 2017.  Since then, the country has further enhanced its cooperation with the OECD, approximated the organization's standards, and seeks to increase its participation in the various OECD bodies. FGV has been following this process closely.

3. OECD and FGV

Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) has maintained a knowledge partnership with the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) since 2010. FGV Europe participates actively in the annual OECD Forum, holding presentations and presenting high-level research, studies, and analyzes. This partnership involves the creation of studies, publications, and seminars, among other initiatives. In addition, the partnership was also highlighted at the launch of the Portuguese version of the OECD's "Index for a Better Life" in 2014, as being responsible for translating, updating, and promoting the Index to the Portuguese-speaking public worldwide. Furthermore, FGV organised a meeting in Paris in 2018 with members of the Brazilian judiciary, and OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría, and other directors of the institution. The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen our partnership with the OECD and to extend its thematic scope to the area of Law.

FGV Europe has been closely monitoring the accession process of Brazil to the OECD and promotes the development of closer relations between both. In 2015, FGV had the opportunity to witness the signing of the cooperation agreement between the OECD and Brazil, a milestone for Brazil, the OECD, and FGV.
