Fundação Getulio Vargas will open the new building of the Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE) on March 27 at 6 PM, located on Rua Jornalista Orlando Dantas, in Botafogo. The building will be named after economist Roberto Campos, who worked as ambassador, minister of Planning, senator and federal congressman throughout his life-long career.

“We decided to name the new building after Roberto Campos in line with our tradition of honoring great names in the field of economy who contributed to the creation of FGV. The former minister is part of a distinct group of people who played a key role in building FGV into what it is today,” said FGV’s Vice President, Sergio Quintella.

FGV’s new building is the fifth building named in honor of remarkable Brazilian citizens directly involved in the early years of the institution. Located on Botafogo Beach, the main office is named after FGV’s first president, Luiz Simões Lopes, which is also the name of the building in Avenida Paulista, in São Paulo. The Candelária campus, in downtown Rio de Janeiro, was named after Otávio Gouveia de Bulhões, who was minister of Treasury and chaired the Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE). Another building in Botafogo (in Rua Barão de Itambi) was also named after a renowned economist, professor Eugênio Gudin Filho, who was also minister of Treasury. Gudin was FGV’s Vice President from 1960 to 1976, but had already been part of the institution since the 1940’s.

Covering a total area of 58,000 square meters, the new building has three stories and a basement level, featuring conventional classrooms, horseshoe-shaped auditoriums, computer labs, PBL (Problem Based Learning) methodology teaching rooms, group study and common areas for students, as well as the school’s technical and administrative offices.  The building holds up to 616 students and 120 seats for study groups.
