Agricultural outlook for Brazil debated at event in honor of Professor Mauro Lopes

FGV’s Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE) will host the seminar titled “Brazilian agriculture: main issues and outlooks” on April 7, at 2 PM. The event will honor professor Mauro de Rezende Lopes and his contribution to the study and practice of agricultural economics in Brazil.
Marking Mauro Lopes’ retirement from IBRE, where he worked in the early days of his career and later returned in 1994, the seminar will be divided into two panels. The first will address agriculture within global commerce, under the theme “Commercial Negotiations and Perspectives of Exports in the Agricultural and Livestock Sector.” The panel will feature José Alfredo Graça Lima, Antonio Salazar Pessoa Brandão and André Mellone Nassar, moderated by Lia Valls Pereira (IBRE).
The second panel will address “The Future of Research and Performance Prospects for the Brazilian Agriculture and Livestock Sector,” featuring Maurício Antonio Lopes (President of Embrapa), Eliseu Alves and Tito Bruno Bandeira Ryff, moderated by Phillip Vidigal Lee. A cocktail party will be held after the seminar in honor of Professor Mauro Lopes.
Researcher and member of the Advisory Board of IBRE, Mauro de Rezende Lopes’ contribution to the economic development of Brazil’s agricultural sector throughout his entire career was extremely relevant. In 2000, he won the “Innovative Ideas to mitigate Poverty in the Countryside” contest held by the World Bank, alongside Ignez Lopes. In 2015, he was granted the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) award for his contributions to the Green Revolution in Brazil.
