Forum receives academic papers on supply chain and operations in Latin America

Published by FGV’s Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (EAESP), the Journal of Operations and Supply Chain Management (JOSCM) has opened a call for papers for the ‘Supply Chain and Operations Strategies for Problem-Solving in Latin American Countries’ forum, organized by professors Cristiane Biazzin (EAESP), Elyn L. Solano Charris, and Jairo Alberto Jarrín Quintero, both from Universidad de La Sabana, in Colombia.
Papers must be submitted by July 31 and must address the issue of operations and supply chain to solve problems in Latin America. As reported by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean in 2016, direct foreign investment in the region dropped 16% in 2014 and 9.1% in 2015, driven by lower prices and the economic downturn in the region. However, such flows increased by 90% in developed countries, despite the massive uncertainty surrounding the global economy.
While the region has been losing ground, this scenario opens up new opportunities to recover and revamp operations and supply chain management strategies to create value. Due to chronic issues related to infrastructure, logistics, cultural and linguistic limitations, managers have found creative ways to come up with operations and supply chain strategies, in order to remain competitive.
