Earlier this month, three renowned jurists published a Manifesto for the Nation, proposing a referendum to convene a primary and independent Constituent Assembly. To discuss this proposition, former justice José Carlos Dias, one of the authors of the manifesto, and constitutionalist and professor of Sao Paulo Law School (Direito SP), Oscar Vilhena Vieira, will join Diálogo na Web [Dialog on the Web] this Monday, at 11 a.m., broadcast via Facebook by Fundação FHC.

The debate will focus on whether the 1988 Constitution – born at a historical point in time, marking the end of a state of exception – no longer corresponds to Brazil’s reality. The guests will also discuss whether drafting a new Constitution could represent a way out of the country’s economic and political crisis, as well as the potential benefits and risks surrounding this proposition.

One of the country’s main constitutionalists, Oscar Vilhena Vieira is a professor of human rights and constitutional law, in addition to acting as dean of Direito SP. José Carlos Dias is a criminal lawyer and was also Minister of Justice and member of the National Truth Commission.

The debate will be broadcast at 11 a.m.
