FGV’s Center for International Relations welcomes Rodrigo Mallea, the first fellow of the Nuclear Security program. The program studies diplomatic strategies and nuclear policies within Brazil’s main international relationships. Supported by the Stanton Foundation (USA), the initiative will bring a total of thirteen experts in nuclear politics throughout 2017.

The partnership with Stanton was established to support the process of consolidating Fundação Getulio Vargas as a major think tank in Brazil regarding International Security and Strategy. Currently in its second year, the collaboration between Stanton and FGV promotes in-depth studies and discussions with decision-makers in Brazil and Latin America, in addition to developing public debate on modern-day international regulations. This project allowed FGV to join a select group of think tanks around the world who cooperate with the Stanton Foundation, such as the universities of Stanford, Yale and Harvard.

Rodrigo Mallea is a career diplomat from the Ministério de Relaciones Exteriores y Culto da Argentina and specializes in nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. He is a PhD candidate at Universidad Torcuato Di Tella (Buenos Aires), featuring a thesis on strategies adopted by Argentina in recent decades to relate to the Brazilian nuclear program. Before joining Argentine diplomacy, Mallea was a research assistant at FGV’s Center for International Relations. His first book is titled “The Origins of Nuclear Cooperation: a Critical Oral History Between Argentina and Brazil” (FGV and Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, 2015), co-written by Nicholas Wheeler and Matias Spektor.

FGV’s Center for International Relations is based at the School of Social Sciences (CPDOC).
