FGV students develop app that helps with studying

Professors and students now have a brand new tool to make learning easier. The Ducante application was developed by students from FGV’s Sao Paulo School of Business Administration (EAESP), in partnership with students from University of Sao Paulo’s Institute of Mathematics and Statistics (IME USP) during the Digital Entrepreneurship course.
The purpose of the app is to solve three very common problems for schools and university entrance exam courses. The first is content retention, the second is student motivation and engagement with their studies, and the last is the lack of time to cover all of the content. The idea is for professors to extend their lessons beyond the classroom. For instance, the class is about elections and the professor provides a broad range of multimedia content, such as videos, articles, and exercises on Ducante.
In addition to breaking free from the conventional learning model, students who use the platform are motivated to participate in a game and have the opportunity to ask questions to other colleagues and professors online. They can also practice with exercises, which are automatically corrected by the tool. This generates statistics for professors showing the progress of each student, allowing them to tweak their class content based on such data.
“The group that developed the Ducante application was one of the most distinguished during the Digital Entrepreneurship course. It was instrumental, because students were able to reflect on the possibilities of creating a business model by developing a prototype of functional software,” said Professor Eduardo de Rezende Francisco, one of the course coordinators.
“We decided to create this application to use technology to solve some problems faced by popular university entrance exam courses in Sao Paulo. We soon saw that the lack of technology in education was more widespread throughout Brazil. Today, our expectation is to become the digital arm of schools and university entrance exam courses, regardless of whether they are popular or not,” said Lucas Santos, one of the students who developed the platform.
The platform already hosts more than 40,000 exercises and can be accessed by partner schools through the website or applications, available on the App Store and Google Play.
