FGV receives papers for international workshop

In August, FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio), in partnership with Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law, will host an expert workshop titled ‘Transformative Constitutionalism in Latin America and International Economic Law: Avoiding Conflict and Fostering Dialogue’ The event will be held at FGV’s main office in Rio de Janeiro and applicants must submit their papers by June 12.

The workshop aims to break down the relationship between the instruments of International Economic Law and the possibility of building and developing a Transformative Constitutionalism in Latin America. The event focuses on the concept of Ius Constitutionale Commune in Latin America (ICCAL), based on a multi-focal insight into the features of the constitutions of the various Latin American States, as well as the Inter-American Human Rights System.

Therefore, the seminar covers topics such as social inclusion, institutionality, liberal democracy, and human rights, prioritizing dialog and pluralism, as well as the ideals that brought Latin American Constitutional Law closer to International Economic Law.

The call for papers is aimed at graduate students and PhD candidates who can provide fresh contributions with in-depth analyses on the subject. Within the scope of the interaction between Latin American Constitutional Law and International Economic Law, the event will accept papers related to the fields of International Trade Law, International Investment Law, International Monetary Law, International Tax Law, and International Protection of Intellectual Property. Only papers in English language will be accepted.

Selected proposals will be announced on June 28, 2017 and the respective drafts must be submitted by August 15, 2017. The Expert Workshop will be held on August 28 and 29. Go to the website for more information.
