FGV coordinates North-South debate on administration and society

Canadian Henry Mintzberg, professor at McGill University and co-founder of IMPM, led an international panel debating the “Journey in Pursuit of a Rebalanced Society”. The event was held on May 29 and was attended by Brazilian administration scholars, including Alexandre Faria, professor at FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE), who coordinated the debate.
The international panel, which was streamed on Facebook by the National Association for Graduate Studies and Research in Business Administration (ANPAD), focused on the importance of innovation, under a democratic and pluralistic perspective, as a means to address the crisis faced by management and administration scholars in Brazil and around the world, who have been virtually unable to promote democratic and pluralistic ideas for their field in the last few decades.
“This innovative North-South panel put into practice a democratic and pluralistic perspective, instead of keeping it confined within yet another academic text, in an attempt to find solutions to the ongoing crisis faced by management scholars in Brazil, Canada, and other parts of our globalized world, which many of us tend to overlook – perhaps because of the lack of dialogue in this sense,” said professor Alexandre Faria.
The panel was conceived by a broad team of scholars over the course of two months, based on two main goals: promoting dialogue between academia and society, and between the Northern and Southern hemispheres through ANPAD, and engaging in academic practices and knowledge with society.
A renowned global author on the management field, Professor Mintzberg acted more as a catalyst than a typical keynote speaker while helping build this panel along with Diego Baptista (Social Entrepreneur from OSC Sociedade Global, and Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná), Fernando Gimenez (former director at Araucária Foundation, UFPR) and Marcos Schlemm (former Superintendent of the Paraná Industry Federation, and PUC-PR).
