FGV event promotes development of Brazilian startups

The Alumni network of FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE) will host the Startup Club Meeting on June 22, at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the event is to spark initiatives from institutions and investors, in addition to promoting the work developed by EBAPE’s students and alumni.
Focused on boosting the performance of startups and fostering initiatives and investments in this field, EBAPE’s alumni created a system called Startup Club, through which members are immersed in a community that brings together entrepreneurs, investors and researchers, who make monthly presentations on key topics, featuring pitches with Q&A sessions. Based on these presentations, entrepreneurs are subjected to several inquiries and opinions regarding a broad range of topics, ultimately promoting the development of their businesses, in addition to promoting intensive networking among potential clients and investors.
According to EBAPE alumni Bernardo Machado, one of the founders of the Startup Club, the President’s sanction of the Supplementary Law for Simple Taxation Regime theoretically makes investments much safer for both parties, facilitating investments in Startups. In addition, Machado also believes that the agglomeration and innovation culture will facilitate the emergence of new business ventures.
“Brazil won’t develop full-fledged technology hubs based on one initiative alone. It takes a vast network of institutions, accelerators, investments, events and people for good ideas to flourish in the country,” he said.
According to Bernardo Machado, Master’s degree in Business Administration from FGV, and founder and CEO of Price Ninja – startup offering data intelligence solutions, gathering and comparing retail prices online –, despite the country’s extensive red tape and high tax burden, Brazil witnessed multiple cases of successful startups over the last decade, such as Buscapé, EasyTaxi, Zero Papel, and Conta Azul, among several others that inspired new entrepreneurs to create their own Startup.
The Startup Club event will host a panel featuring Leonardo Clark, Head of Tax Planning and Business Development of Gaia (GSGA), and Otávio Leite (Federal congressman and member of the Parliamentary Front of Micro and Small Enterprises, and author of the bill that establishes the role of angel investor), Alexandre Linhares, EBAPE professor and developer of the Startup Club platform, as well as a special participation from Anjos do Brasil.
