First textbook published by FGV Press addresses Human Rights

As the first foray of FGV Press into the world of textbooks, Direitos humanos e vida cotidiana[Human rights and everyday life] was written and published in partnership with FGV’s São Paulo Law School (Direito SP), employing a straightforward language and building upon actual cases to address the fundamental concepts of this area, which encompasses so many others. The book was written by professors Oscar Vilhena Vieira, José Garcez Ghirardi, Marina Feferbaum, Akemi Kamimura, Cleide Lugarini de Andrade, Fabia Veçoso, and Henrique Moraes Prata.

Initially intended for High School teachers and students, but also accessible to the general public, the book adopts an educational approach based on Human Rights, supported by the National Education Guidelines of the Brazilian Ministry of Education, and aims to help establish a culture over such rights, based on the values of ethics, tolerance, solidarity, acceptance of diversity, and the rejection of prejudice, violence, discrimination, inequality and abuse.

Although not directly related to a mandatory subject, education in this area aims to awaken or develop, among Elementary Education teachers and students, the notion that every society can grow and change the world and establish fairer conditions, either individually or collectively, rather than merely repeating the same mistakes of the past.

An absolute must-read – although still not required in the curriculum –, the work complements Human Sciences education and promotes debate in classrooms and households across Brazil.
