EBAPE professor appointed as Edward Laroque Tinker Visiting Professor at Stanford University

Professor Carlos Pereira from FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE) is the second Brazilian scholar appointed by the Tinker Foundation to the position of Edward Laroque Tinker Visiting Professor at Stanford University – a highly prestigious position in one of the most distinguished universities in the U.S. The selection process took place last year, when Carlos Pereira was nominated by professor Jonathan Rodden, from the Political Science Department at Stanford. Supported by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES), the senior internship began in July and ends in December 2017.

In addition to teaching the course titled “Political Institutions in Comparative Perspective in Latin America,” professor Carlos Pereira will also give lectures, participate in seminars, and share his research agenda with other researchers and students at different events held at Stanford.

The Tinker Foundation’s Professorship Endowment was created in 1978 specifically for distinguished professors and researchers across Latin America, Iberian Peninsula and Canada. Every year, five U.S. universities (Stanford, Columbia, Chicago, Texas and Wisconsin) select senior professors specialized in Latin America. The selection process is highly disputed among candidates nominated by different departments and institutes from all five universities.

“It is a great honor to be appointed as Edward Laroque Tinker Visiting Professor at Stanford University. I am sure that such endowment is also the recognition of my institutional association with FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE),” said the professor.
