The role of the white working class in U.S. elections

The Laboratory for Labor and Social Movement Studies (LEMT) of FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC), in partnership with PUC-RJ, will welcome Professor Leon Fink, from University of Illinois (USA), on August 18, at 11 a.m., in room F502 of the Cardeal Frings Building at PUC. The international guest will give a lecture in English on the topic ‘Can the Subaltern vote? Trump 2016 and the Construction of the White Working Class’.

Leon Fink is professor emeritus at the University of Illinois in Chicago, United States. He specializes in U.S. labor history, immigration history, and the so-called ‘Gilded Age’ of the United States. The professor also serves as editor of the journal ‘Labor: Studies in Working Class History of the Americas,’ and has written several books, including ‘The Long Gilded Age: American Capitalism and the Promise of a New World Order’ (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2015).
