Seminar on Judicial Recovery gathers officials and experts at FGV

FGV Projetos will host the ‘Judicial Recovery from a Legal, Economic, and Social Perspective’ seminar on August 14. The event will gather officials and experts on the subject at FGV’s Cultural Center, in Rio de Janeiro.

In addition to the president of FGV, Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, the seminar’s opening ceremony will also include the participation of the Chairman of the Brazilian Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia, the Vice Governor of the State of Rio de Janeiro, Francisco Dornelles, Superior Court of Justice judges Luis Felipe Salomão, Marco Aurélio Bellizze, Paulo de Tarso Sanseverino, and Ricardo Villas Bôas Cueva, the President of the State Appellate Court of Rio de Janeiro, Milton Fernandes de Souza, the President of the Rio de Janeiro Section of the Brazilian Bar Association, Felipe Santa Cruz, and Rio de Janeiro State Attorney and FGV Law Program professor Paulo Penalva Santos, among others.

In light of the challenges of the current political, economic, and social scenario in Brazil, a growing number of companies of different sizes and sectors have had to deal with economic and financial hardships that can endanger their survival. In this context, court-supervised reorganization has become an important alternative to avoid bankruptcy, while keeping the company’s jobs and helping recover the business, ultimately contributing to the country’s economy.

In order to ensure a broad and in-depth discussion on the subject, the seminar will address issues involving court-supervised reorganization and case-law, the conditions and procedures for court-supervised reorganization, and dispute resolution methods such as mediation and arbitration, besides addressing the role of the judicial administrator and basic topics for the establishment of recovery, such as funding and the relationship with lenders. The opening lecture of the event will discuss the contemporary view of the court-supervised reorganization process, from the perspective of the Superior Court of Justice.
