FGV In Company attended the Valor 1000 event held on August 24 in Sao Paulo. Promoted by the Valor Econômico newspaper, the event introduced the 2017 yearbook featuring the top 1,000 companies in Brazil. The ranking also lists the top performing projects across 25 sectors of the economy.

“This is the second year that we participate in the event. I feel that we are fostering closer and deeper relationships with leading companies in the country, showing that we can contribute to their development,” said the Director of FGV In Company, Luiz Ernesto Migliora.

The ceremony was attended by the Brazilian Minister of Finance, Henrique Meirelles, and the President of the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP), Paulo Skaf. The ‘Valor 1000’ yearbook has 444 pages and is distributed among subscribers and available in newsstands. The 2017 edition, won by AMBEV, featured a new study on the most resilient companies and those who were most affected by the economic crisis. The first group featured 32 companies, including Qualicorp, Cielo, Rede D'Or São Luiz, Évora, Estácio Participações, and Raia Drogasil. These companies were able to grow at a steady rate between 2011 and 2016.

The industries that suffered the most losses were construction and engineering (down from 43 to 31 companies), and real estate (down from 35 to 28). The transport and logistics (down from 63 to 70 companies), food and beverages (down from 83 to 89), and agriculture (down from 53 to 59) industries expanded their share. Retail was the most representative industry in the ranking.

The ranking is based on analyses carried out by the Center for Financial Studies (GVcef) of FGV’s São Paulo School of Business Administration (EAESP) and Serasa Experian. GVcef is responsible for developing and validating analysis criteria for all 1,000 companies featured in ‘Valor 1000,’ selecting each segment’s winners for 17 years.
