FGV Energy launches Biofuels booklet

The Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) launched a program titled RenovaBio in late 2016, under the goal of boosting biofuel production in the country by proposing structural changes extensively discussed among the industry’s players. Piggybacking on the opportunities stemming from the commitments assumed under the Paris Agreement and the new regulations proposed by RenovaBio – as well as its implications regarding biofuel production in Brazil – FGV Energy will launch the new Biofuels Booklet on September 15, at 2 p.m., at the auditorium of FGV’s main office in Rio de Janeiro (Praia de Botafogo, 190 – Botafogo).

The purpose of the study is to introduce this debate on renewable biofuels to Brazilian society. To this end, FGV Energy spoke to more than 50 agents from the industry, including representatives of the Government, corporate associations, companies, consulting firms and scholars, most of which believe that the assumed goals are feasible and that the RenovaBio program will help bring back investments.

The new FGV Energy booklet provides an overview of biofuels in Brazil, in addition to highlighting the main issues of the sector, with enough information to provide a clear view of the industry while helping pinpoint initiatives that can maximize the country’s potential. The work was structured under the following core topics: the RenovaBio proposal; ethanol and biodiesel; new biofuels; overview of the sector, main bottlenecks and prospects regarding the recovery of investments.
