Financial inclusion in the Amazon: professor presents work at EGOV EPART 2017

Professor Luiz Antonio Joia, coordinator of e:lab – Electronic Business and Government Research Lab of FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE), presented a paper during the IFIP WG 8.5 International Conference (EGOV EPART 2017), held on September 4-7 in St. Petersburg (Russia).

Developed along with Ricardo Paschoeto Soares, advised by Joia in EBAPE’s Executive Professional Master’s in Business Management (MEX), the work titled ‘Financial Inclusion in the Brazilian Amazon’ analyzes the financial inclusion process mediated by Information and Communication Technology (ICT) of the riverside communities of Marajó Island – one of the regions with the lowest Municipal Human Development Index (MHDI) in Brazil. To carry out the study, the authors developed a financial inclusion model mediated by ICT, which allowed them to assess the real impact of this government initiative on the access and use of financial services by this riverside population.

The professor also attended the annual meeting of the Working Group 8.5 (Information Systems in Public Administration) of the IFIP – International Federation for Information Processing, which sponsored the conference.

Created in 2001, e:lab is a research laboratory that studies the strategic use of IT in the public and private arenas. Featuring a broad and multidisciplinary approach, it operates across several research tracks, based on each topic’s relevance to the market.
