International guest discusses Australian football fan associations

Fan associations currently play a leading role in football, both regarding violence in stadiums and their huge passion for their teams. Just like in Brazil, Australia is known for fan associations that closely follow their teams.

Within this context, the Laboratory for Sports Studies (LESP) of FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC) and the Brazilian Football Reference Center (CRFB/Football Museum) will host the event titled ‘Football fan associations in Australia: cultural diversity and discrimination’ on October 7, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., in Sao Paulo.

The event will feature a chat with professor Jorge Dorfman Knijnik, from Western Sydney University’s Education Department. A Brazilian researcher living in Australia, the professor will share his experience in Australian football, presenting his fieldwork with a football fan association in Sydney, Australia.

The meeting will be held at the CRFB/Football Museum Room, located at Praça Charles Miller, s/n, Pacaembu Stadium. Prior registration is not required.
