International guest gives lecture on Business Improvement Districts

Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) are commercial districts managed through partnerships between public and private initiatives, where the district’s owners and businesspersons choose to perform a collective contribution through mandatory taxation for to maintain, develop, and market/promote these spaces.
BIDs are under the spotlight at the event titled ‘Business Improvement District (BIDs): Reflections from Comparative Law,’ held by FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio) on October 9, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., in Rio de Janeiro. The meeting will be led by professor Julian Jurgensmeyer, Urban Law expert from Georgia State University.
Coordinated by the Center for Research in Law and Economics (CPDE) and the School’s Academic Master’s in Regulation Law, the seminar aims to discuss U.S. experiences with BIDs and their possible applications in Brazil.
President of Ben F. Johnson, Jurgensmeyer is Director of the Center for the Comparative Study of Metropolitan Growth, adjunct professor at Georgia Institute of Technology, professor emeritus at Gerald A. Sohn Research Scholar, and associate professor at University of Florida.
