FGV’s EPGE Brazilian School of Economics and Finance will hold the seminar ‘Modernization of Brazilian Infrastructure’ on October 27, from 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event will be held in the auditorium of FGV’s main office in Rio de Janeiro (Praia de Botafogo, 190, 12^th floor, Botafogo) and aims to discuss the obstacles for investing in infrastructure and the necessary measures to resume such investments.

Experts believe that modernization of Brazil’s infrastructure is a precondition for the sustainable growth of the economy. This effort will require redefining the roles of the public and private sectors, as well as changes to regulatory framework. In addition to efficiency, the infrastructure modernization involves governance and ethics issues in state-owned and private companies.

These matters will be discussed over three panels. The first will be dedicated to presenting the World Bank report that discusses the conditions for resuming infrastructure investments in Brazil in an environment of fiscal austerity. Then, two panels will be held for discussing electricity and sanitation industry issues. The seminar will end with a conference by Mansueto Almeida, Secretary of Economic Monitoring of the Ministry of Finance.

The seminar is free, with the number of participants subject to the capacity of the auditorium.
