Fundação Getulio Vargas has signed a cooperation agreement with Banco Regional de Desenvolvimento do Extremo Sul (BRDE) for the legal, economic and financial analysis of projects. The agreement was signed on October 19 at the main office of the State Government of Rio Grande do Sul, in a ceremony in which 27 municipalities joined the program.

FGV’s partnership with the BRDE will support the municipalities’ fundraising efforts from national and international sources; increasing private participation in public-private partnership projects (PPPs) and concessions. In addition, the agreement provides for support in technical advisory projects tailored to meet the specific demands of the municipalities, such as funds administration and real estate valuation.

FGV was represented by its president, Pprofessor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, by the diretor of FGV Projetos, Cesar Cunha Campos and by the Former Minister Henrique Paim.  The president pointed out that the cooperation agreement is a smart and timely step, because it considers the future and does not give up in the face of the difficulties imposed by the serious economic crisis that affected Brazil.

“This partnership can leverage public investment, that which Brazil currently lacks the most: investments in infrastructure. Investments in education. Investments in the municipalities,” said the President.

The ceremony was also attended by the Governor of Rio Grande do Sul, José Ivo Sartori.  He pointed out that the action of the BRDE provides municipalities with technical experts qualified to support them and that the partnership with FGV will contribute to the modernization of the state.

“The partnership with FGV, a very experienced institution, will significantly deepen our knowledge in the advisory services, modeling of concessions, PPPs, and fundraising, and reaffirms what we have always said: we do not have any kind of prejudice against public-private partnerships. Our focus is on modernizing the state and offering quality services to the population,” said Governor José Ivo Sartori.
