Workshop analyzes international accounting and finance influences on Latin American public sector

FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE), in partnership with the Regional Accounting Council of Rio de Janeiro (CRCRJ) and with the Administration and Finance College of UERJ, will host the Workshop “Development and innovation of public accounting: research and practice” on November 9 and 10.
The workshop intends to build a bridge between international and Latin American scholars interested in researching indications and providing critical analysis on the international influences of public sector accounting and finance in Latin American countries. Due to colonization of the region, Portugal and Spain played a significant role in the construction and development of the countries’ social institutions, including past public sector accounting and finance practices. There is evidence that other countries, such as Italy, the United Kingdom, the United States and New Zealand later influenced the development of public sector accounting and finance in Latin America as well.
The workshop is scheduled for two days. The first will include a group discussion on the web with professionals from Latin American countries that implemented IPSAS (International Public Sector Accounting) at different levels, a speech by a Brazilian professional on the same subject and a series of lectures presented by leading researchers in the field. The second day is dedicated to discussion of articles and research projects whose authors are preparing their submissions for the call for papers of the Journal of Public Administration (RAP).
