The Consumer Price Index - Class 1 (CPI-C1) for October showed a variation of 0.42%, which is 0.67 percentage points above the rate for September, when the index recorded a variation of -0.25%. With this result, the indicator accrues an increase of 1.89% in the year and 2.14% in the past 12 months. In October, the CPI-BR recorded a variation of 0.33%. The indicator for the last 12 months stood at 3.16%, above the level recorded by CPI-C1. The Index is calculated by FGV's Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE).

Five out of the eight expense categories comprising the index recorded increasing variation rates: Housing (-0.33% to 1.06%), Food (-0.77% to 0.31%), Health and Personal Care (0.03% to 0.21%), Communication (-0.05% to 0.60%), and Miscellaneous Expenses (0.27% to 0.49%). Within these groups, the highlights were the following items: residential electricity rate (-2.72% to 4.16%), greens and vegetables (-7.88% to 11.04%), toiletries and personal care (-0.50% to 0.08%), mobile phone rate (-0.14% to 1.49%), and cigarettes (0.56% to 1.05%), respectively.

On the other hand, the Transportation (0.18% to -0.20%), Apparel (0.63% to 0.07%), and Education, Reading, and Recreation (0.37% to -0.08%) groups showed decreasing variation rates. In these expense classes, the highlights were the following items: gasoline (2.95% to -0.01%), clothing (0.95% to 0.17%), and airfare (12.51% to -9.42%), respectively.
