FGV and Itamaraty discuss international nuclear order challenges

FGV’s Center for International Relations will host an international conference on the future of the global nuclear order in partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Relations. The event will be held on December 7 and 8 at Palácio do Itamaraty, in Brasilia.

The event will discuss future prospects for the nuclear safeguards regime in Brazil and Argentina, expectations regarding the next Non-Proliferation Treaty in 2020, and the effects of the recent approval of the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons. Therefore, the event will shed light onto the tensions threatening the international system’s stability.

“In a world where the threat of nuclear war continues to rise, inching its way back onto the agendas of Washington, Moscow and Pyongyang, this type of open debate between researchers and diplomats has never been so important,” said the Center’s coordinator, Matias Spektor.

The conference will also be attended by partners from the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and PUC-RJ. The Center for International Relations is based at FGV’s School of Social Sciences (CPDOC).
