New book addresses various macroeconomic models

Fernando de Holanda Barbosa, professor at FGV’s EPGE Brazilian School of Economics and Finance (EPGE), will launch the book titled Macroeconomics, on Monday, December 11, at FGV Bookstore (Praia de Botafogo, 190. Rio de Janeiro). In order to cover the various models of this field of economics, the book presents the main models of economic growth, economic fluctuation, and pricing.
The book addresses models such as the Keynesian model, economic growth in the open economy, sustainability of public debt and foreign debt, chronic inflation, and hyperinflation, among others.
Each model is specified with an identical mathematical approach: the dynamic systems of differential equations. These systems allow a very simple analysis of the comparative balance, stability, and dynamics of the models.
Organized into four sections, the book is segmented into flexible pricing models; rigid pricing models; and monetary and fiscal policy models. The author helps us understand the economic growth and cycle models, as well as the agendas, while also weaving a comparison between the predictions of each of these models.
The work has a chapter devoted exclusively to government budget constraint, the theoretical framework suitable to break down the pathologies of the non-sustainability of public debt and hyperinflation. Therefore, it is more than suitable for understanding the economic crises experienced by Latin American countries.
