Brazilian Senate Committee report on microeconomic reforms uses FGV study as reference

Some of the conclusions of the book titled Anatomia da Produtividade no Brasil [Anatomy of Productivity in Brazil] were used as reference by the report published by the work group of the Brazilian Senate Committee of Economic Affairs (CAE) on microeconomic reforms, approved by the Committee this week. Published by FGV’s Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE), the book was launched this year.
While analyzing the country’s development and indicating the need for microeconomic reforms, the report mentions the sluggish progress of productivity in Brazil – which is the central topic of IBRE’s book compiled by Regis Bonelli, Fernando Veloso and Armando Castelar – as one of the factors that significantly affect the economy.
Some of the report’s highlights include the lack of convergence towards the productivity of advanced economies, the low productivity across all sectors, the high ratio of companies with low productivity and the use of labor in activities with lower ability to convert human capital into productivity. These topics are covered in some conclusions of the book.
The propositions published in the report were forwarded to the Brazilian Senate, where they will be voted on in the near future.
