2017 Retrospective: FGV consolidates leadership in economic forecasts for Brazil

FGV’s Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE) has consolidated its leading position inBloomberg’s economic forecast rankings, based on the forecasts of several market institutions in Brazil and abroad.
The institute’s main achievements include first place in interannual GDP growth forecasts since March 2017. IBRE has ranked among the Top 5 since August 2014, considering the accrued growth rate over four quarters. The Institute also holds first place in the Central Bank of Brazil’s economic activity indicator (IBC-Br), leading since January 2017, besides being ranked among the Top 5 since December 2015.
IBRE also stands out in the Monthly Industrial (PIM-PF) and Monthly Commerce (PMC) surveys, ranked among the top five institutions since March and July 2016, respectively. In the study that assesses the unemployment rate, measured by the Continuous PNAD, IBRE has been in the Top 5 since April 2017. Since last month (July 2017), IBRE has also stood out in the growth projection of China’s interannual GDP, also ranking among the top five.
IBRE started drafting macroeconomic projections for Brazilian economy in March 2013, publishing such forecasts on major platforms such as Bloomberg, AE Broadcast, Focus, and Valor PRO, always with a high level of precision.
