FGV stands out at UN Internet Governance Forum

Senior researcher at the Center for Technology and Society (CTS) of FGV's Rio de Janeiro Law School (Direito Rio), Luca Belli, participated in the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in Geneva, Switzerland. The event was held in Geneva, Switzerland, from December 18 - 21, 2017.
At the event, Belli launched two books: “Platform Regulations: How platforms are regulated and how they regulate us”, edited with Nicolo Zingales, exploring the challenges of regulating digital platforms and respect for fundamental rights; and “Community Networks: The Internet by the people for the people”, analyzing the benefits of community networks to expand Internet access in a sustainable fashion, and the challenges and opportunities for these networks.
Belli also debated the latest net neutrality trends, presenting the Zero Rating Map, an initiative exploring zero rating plans and net neutrality frameworks in 80 countries; and debated digital policies with Russian Deputy Minister of Telecommunications Rashid Ismailov, Ambassador Benedict Fonseca Filho and other Internet regulation specialists during the CyberBRICS session.
“The United Nations Internet Governance Forum is a unique venue to debate and influence digital policies at the international level and build partnerships with governments, companies and experts from all around the world. Once again, FGV stood out for the quality and usefulness of the research presented during the Forum, which has been influencing the development of Internet governance for several years”, said Luca Belli.
The two books, as well as the Zero Rating Map, are the official outcomes of the IGF's working groups on Platform Responsibility, on Community Connectivity, and on Network Neutrality, coordinated by Luca Belli.
