International conference discusses economics of oil

FGV Growth & Development will host the ‘International Conference on the Economics of Oil’ in partnership with the Centre for Applied Macro and Petroleum Economics (CAMP) of the Norwegian Business School, and sponsored by Petrobras. The event will be held on February 28 at FGV’s Cultural Center (Praia de Botafogo, 186. Rio de Janeiro) and on March 1-2 at the auditorium of FGV’s main office (Praia de Botafogo, 190 – 12th floor, Rio de Janeiro).
The first day will bring together executives, regulators, economists, and market analysts to debate policies, regulations, and challenges of the oil industry. The event’s opening ceremony will be led by the president of FGV, Professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, followed by a lecture by the president of Petrobras, Pedro Parente. Next, there will be a panel discussion on the future of oil, featuring Roberto Castello Branco (FGV Growth & Development), Adriano Pires (Brazilian Center for Infrastructure), Marco Lombardi (BIS), and Ragnar Torvik (Norwegian University of Science and Technology). The afternoon will host lectures by the General Director of the National Oil, Natural Gas, and Biofuels Agency (ANP), Décio Oddone, as well as professors Warwick McKibbin (Australian National University) and Lutz Kilian (University of Michigan).
On March 1, the event welcomes the Brazilian Minister of Mines and Energy, Fernando Coelho Filho; the president of the Brazilian Institute for Oil, Gas, and Biofuel (IBP), Jorge Camargo; Ian Parry, from the International Monetary Fund (IMF); and Rabah Arezki, from the World Bank. The event will share academic insights into the economics of oil, with contributions from professors João Victor Issler and Pedro Cavalcanti Ferreira (FGV Growth & Development), Hilde Bjørnland (CAMP), and researchers from American, European, and Asian universities. The event is free and open to the public.
