Oscar Vilhena Vieira, the dean of FGV’s Sao Paulo Law School (Direito SP) received the 21^st Santo Dias Human Rights Award on March 15, granted by the Sao Paulo Legislative Assembly (Alesp). The award is the highest honor granted by Alesp for efforts to disseminate, debate, and study Human Rights.

“I dedicate this award to everyone who stands by human rights, democracy and rule of law. In such troubled times, it is essential to renew our commitment to these fundamental values of civilization”, said Oscar Vilhena Vieira.

According to congressman Carlos Bezerra Jr., chairman of Alesp’s Human Rights Commission, the award recognizes Vieira’s efforts as a lawyer, defending human rights, and as a scholar and public intellectual figure, advocating for democracy and the rule of law.
