Authorities to discuss trade flows in Mercosur at seminar

FGV’s World Economic Center (CEM) will host the seminar titled “Mercosur and trade flows” on April 9, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will be held at FGV’s Cultural Center, bringing together Brazilian and Argentinean authorities, as well as experts in international trade. Alongside FGV’s President, professor Carlos Ivan Simonsen Leal, the Argentinean Minister of Finance Nicolás Dujovne will host the seminar’s opening lecture. The Brazilian Minister of Finance, Henrique Meirelles, will deliver the closing lecture.
The event’s first roundtable will discuss Brazil’s role in Mercosur and the path toward open regionalism. The subject will be debated in two panels, both moderated by the Director of CEM, Carlos Geraldo Langoni: the first will include the Secretary of International Affairs of Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, Marcello Estevão, and the Deputy Minister of Finance of Argentina, Sebastián Galiani, and the second will include the Secretary of Fiscal, Energy and Lottery Control of Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, Mansueto Facundo de Almeida Junior, and the Secretary of Strategic Planning (SAE) of the President’s Office, Carlos Roberto Pio da Costa Filho.
The second roundtable will include economists Sónia Araújo (OECD) and Lucas Ferraz (FGV’s Sao Paulo School of Economics – EESP) to discuss the following topic: “Quantifying the effects of trade liberalization in Mercosur”. Before Minister Meirelles’s closing lecture, economist Philip Levy (The Chicago Council on Global Affairs) will talk about “Global trends of trade policy: current scenario and future prospects”.
