Brazilian Industry Confidence drops in preliminary results for April

Conducted by FGV’s Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE), the Industry Survey’s preliminary results for April indicate a decrease of 0.7 point in the Industry Confidence Index (ICI) compared to the final figure of March, down to 101.0 points. Under the quarterly moving averages metric, the ICI would maintain the upward trend started in the second half of last year, with an increase of 0.5 point towards 101.0 points.
The decrease in confidence would be a result of lower industry expectations for the next few months. After two consecutive increases, the Expectations Index (IE) would fall 1.6 point, down to 101.2 points in April. The Current Situation Index (ISA) would remain relatively stable, with an increase of 0.1 point, totaling 100.7 points.
Preliminary results for April show that the Industry Installed Capacity Usage Level (NUCI) stabilized once again at 76.1% – the highest level since May 2015 (76.6%).
For the April preliminary figures, 794 companies were surveyed between April 2 and 18. The final results will be published next Thursday, April 26.
