Exploitation of low-permeability resources in Brazil to be debated

With the goal of studying the Brazilian energy sector and the importance of bringing back the onshore environment, FGV Energy will host the seminar titled “Discussions on the exploitation of low-permeability resources in Brazil: transparent well project” in partnership with the Brazilian Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), Empresa de Pesquisa Energética (EPE) and the Brazilian National Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency (ANP). The event will demystify the exploitation of low-permeability resources via hydraulic fracturing and will be held on June 4, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., in the auditorium of FGV’s main office (Praia de Botafogo, 190, 12th floor. Botafogo, Rio de Janeiro, RJ).

The reactivation of the onshore market rekindles the need to discuss its exploitation in Brazil, through a free and transparent approach. Shale gas, for instance, ascended the USA to the position of hydrocarbon exporter, reducing its external vulnerability, increasing its production by small producers, and shifting global oil geopolitics in a short period of time. Considering the different proportions of the U.S. and Brazilian markets, it is necessary to demystify hydraulic fracturing in order to demonstrate potential positive externalities.

The technical discussions proposed by FGV Energy will be attended by representatives of UnB, Ministry of the Environment, Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the National Confederation of the Industry, as well as members of EPE, ANP and MME. The event will feature international experts in pilot projects with risk monitoring systems such as Marcellus Shale Energy and Environment Laboratory (MSEEL), as well as onshore operation companies and state government agencies.
