Pay TV and new technologies discussed by experts at event

FGV’s Rio de Janeiro Law School (FGV Direito Rio) professor Carlos Ragazzo was one of the lecturers at the Brazil Streaming event, held on June 11 at the WTC Events Center in Sao Paulo. Currently in its third edition, the meeting brought together experts, content producers, programmers and some of the industry’s largest companies to discuss changes in the pay TV market and the impact of new technologies.
An expert in the field of competition and regulation, with papers and technical works on the topic, Ragazzo was one of the lecturers in the panel “Streaming, Inc.: The new audiovisual economy”. The professor addressed disruptive trends in the video-on-demand market and called attention to the fact that restrictions to verticalization (i.e. the prohibition of joining content production and distribution by pay TV companies) prevents traditional operators from having the same competitive advantages as Internet companies. According to the expert, we need to revisit the regulation of the industry and open new possibilities for pay TV companies to reinvent themselves.
The event also discussed topics such as video-on-demand taxation; business and negotiation models for streaming properties; original production for digital platforms; and new distribution models.
