FGV’s School of International Relations (RI) offers a series of intensive courses this semester, in Sao Paulo. The first two, which are already open for registration, are “Political Risk Analysis”, with Matias Spektor, professor and coordinator of the International Relations course at RI, and “Digital Threats to Democracy”, with Barrie Sander, post-doctorate candidate at FGV.

The “Political Risk Analysis” course will provide theoretical and practical tools to understand how economics and politics intertwine, in addition to teaching how to understand and mitigate risks in these sectors. Classes will take place between September 10 and 22, Mondays through Fridays, from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and include training in theoretical concepts and tools, their practical application in specific cases, drafting professional risk analysis reports, and written and video presentations.

The “Digital Threats to Democracy” course covers issues such as fake news, elections co-opted by digital attacks and virtual governance. Classes will be taught in English and will take place between October 1 and 6, Mondays through Fridays, from 6:30 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturdays, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The program will examine how the digital world is transforming democracy, covering all aspects from interference in elections to issues related to artificial intelligence and digital responsibility.

The RI will also offer two other intensive courses later in the second semester of 2018. The courses are titled “How to Prepare Applications for Graduate Programs Abroad”, with professor Matias Spektor, between October 22 and 27, and “China’s International Relations: Politics, Economics and Society”, with professor Oliver Stuenkel, between November 5 and 10.
