IPC-S inflation advances in the third week of March

The Weekly Consumer Price Index (IPC-S) of March 22, prepared by FGV’s Brazilian Institute of Economics (IBRE), rose by 0.61%, 0.04 percentage points (p.p.) higher than the rate recorded in the last disclosure. In this calculation, five of the eight component expenditure classes of the index reported an increase in their variation rates. The main contribution came from the Transportation group (0.66% to 0.92%). In this expenditure class, it is worth mentioning the behavior of the item Gasoline, whose rate went from 0.40% to 1.64%.

The following groups also reported increases in their variation rates: Housing (0.30% to 0.34%), Clothing (0.32% to 0.44%), Miscellaneous Expenses (-0.14% to -0.07%), and Education, Reading and Recreation (0.07% to 0.13%). In these expenditure classes, it is worth mentioning the behavior of items residential electricity bill (0.62% to 0.87%), clothing (0.38% to 0.50%), in-store Internet access (-0.07% to 0.55%), and music concerts (2.11% to 3.15%).

In contrast, the groups Feeding (1.18% to 1.14%), Health and Personal Care (0.48% to 0.34%) and Communication (0.32% to 0.19%) showed a decline in their variation rates. In these expenditure classes, it is worth mentioning the following items: restaurants (0.63% to 0.48%), hygiene and personal care (0.89% to 0.17%) and residential telephone bill (-0.38% to -0.51%).

The next CPI-S calculation, with data collected until March 31, will be released on April 1.
