Studies on public transparency in Latin America are presented to the CGU

Professor Gregory Michener, from FGV’s Brazilian School of Public and Business Administration (EBAPE) was invited by the Office of the Controller General of Brazil (CGU) to present studies within the framework of the Transparency and Information Access Network of Latin America (RTA). He participated in the 17th RTA meeting, held on May 15 at the headquarters of Fecomércio, in Rio de Janeiro.
During the event, Michener explained the results of two studies. First, he presented the article published in the Governance magazine, one of the main journals in the field of Public Administration. Based on a field survey, the paper underscores the importance of protecting the identities of information requesters. Second, he revealed the publication of an unprecedented database, with the results of all assessments of laws on access to public information in Latin America, analyzing the degrees of compliance of governments since the first laws, enacted in 2002. The results show an improvement in the performance of institutions and focused on the evaluation of the Federal Executive Branch.
The RTA features the participation of representatives in charge of promoting and protecting the laws on access to information in the Latin American countries that are members of the Organization of American States (OAS), as well as representatives from Canada and the United States.
