Workshop debates Law and Society in Latin America

Rio de Janeiro Law School (FGV Direito Rio) will hold, on May 8, from 9 am to 2 pm, the Workshop Law and Society in Latin America. The event will present innovative socio-legal research by FGV and Stanford Law School (USA), conducted by researchers from Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico, Chile, the United States and Canada.The opening panel will feature Professor Joaquim Falcão. Rio de Janeiro Law School's director will speak on the School of Activist Law, a theme that will address the role of the educational institution as a changing agent in society. In the same panel, Professor Ivar A. Hartmann will present the project Supremo em Números, which aims to quantitatively analyze the role of the Supreme Court (STF). The researcher and co-manager of the Center for Technology and Society (CTS), Luiz Moncau, will address the Civil Rights Framework for Internet Use.The final panel will present the work of Professor Rolando Garcia, who offers an interesting reflection on the transformation of the courts, institutions and ideas from case studies related to the Inter-American Court of Human Rights. Professors Diego Werneck Arguelhes and Ivar A. Hartmann, together with fellow Evan Rosevear, will present a study on the voting patterns of Brazilian judges. Finally, Rogelio Perez-Perdomo will make an analysis of the legal culture of revolutionary Venezuela.The event is open to the public and registration should be made via the event's website, which is in Portuguese.
