Webinar debates use of artificial intelligence to discover drugs to treat COVID-19

On July 9, Fundação Getulio Vargas’ School of Applied Mathematics (FGV EMAp) will hold a webinar called “AI and Network Medicine Approaches for Predicting Drugs for COVID-19.” The event will be broadcast live, as of 2 pm. It will present the preliminary results of work led by researcher and FGV EMAp professor Alberto Paccanaro and postdoc students in the areas of network medicine and machine learning in the development of new algorithms to predict repositionable drugs for COVID-19.

The aim of the meeting with Professor Paccanaro is to discuss how the pandemic’s nature calls for the rapid development of new therapies. Drug repositioning is a discovery strategy that exploits existing drugs and can therefore dramatically reduce timeframes and costs compared with developing a new drug from scratch. Network medicine and artificial intelligence offer new approaches for predicting drugs that can be repositioned for COVID-19.

The event will take place in English. For more information and to sign up, click here.
