Registration of female candidates and collective mandates to be discussed in FGV webinar

On August 21, the Rio de Janeiro State Electoral Prosecutor’s Office and the Rio de Janeiro More Women in Politics Forum, in partnership with the FGV Rio de Janeiro Law School, will hold their third webinar about the 2020 elections. This edition, called “Registration of Female Candidates and Collective Mandates,” will be broadcast live on FGV’s YouTube channel, starting at 5 pm. Aimed at preliminary female candidates in the state of Rio de Janeiro, it will inform them of their rights and debate the upcoming elections.

The third edition in this series of webinars will explore key aspects related to the registration of candidates, as well as past and present experiences of collective mandates. The event will feature special guests Carol Vergolino and Robeyoncé Lima, who were elected to share a seat in the state assembly of Pernambuco on the “Juntas” collective ticket for the Socialism and Liberty Party, to report a little of their experience with this kind of mandate.

The other speakers will be Rio de Janeiro regional electoral prosecutor Silvana Batini; Professor Clara Araújo of Rio de Janeiro State University’s Gender Inequalities and Relations Study Center; Professor Hildete Pereira de Mello of Fluminense Federal University; Adriana Mota of the Association of Brazilian Women; Havana Marinho, a member of the Human Rights and Legal Aid Commission of the Rio de Janeiro chapter of the Brazilian Bar Association; Marina Barros of the Alziras Institute; and Leila Linhares, the founder and director of women’s pressure group CEPIA and emeritus professor at the Rio de Janeiro State Magistrates’ School. The moderator will be Professor Ligia Fabris of the FGV Rio de Janeiro Law School.
